The floor loom restoration project has been postponed due to Leclerc’s summer break, so I decided to buy yet another Gulf Coast Native fleece from a distributor that is without a doubt using the farm I bought from last year as a supplier. The stupid thing is that I could have purchased that same partially felted fleece for far less last year but didn’t because I was just interested in fleeces for spinning.
At least one of those fleeces bought for spinning is not good for spinning, which is why I’m felting the one Gulf Coast Native white fleece that I’ve scoured so far. It was the smaller of the two white ones I bought last year, and I’m processing it into batts to line the back of the new fleece. Last year was my first time buying fleeces, and I really didn’t know what I was doing. Not that I do now, but at least I know slightly better.

In any case, I tried to scour the partially felted fleece last Saturday. I had everything ready, water in the bucket, just to find out that my immersion water heater had stopped working since last September. I’m guessing it was a victim of the Louisiana heat in the storage room off the carport.
Here’s a close-up look at the Golden Fleece that I’m going to be making into a felted rug, fatis volentibus.
The new immersion water heater came in today, in time for the weekend scour hours. I hope it works.
